That was a clever little subversion there, having him actually be the thief. Also, this is Italy post World War I wouldn’t a thieves guild just be the mafia

That is a good point. What I'm going for with this world I've made is that thieves guilds co-exist with the mafia, although they aren't the same thing since the thieves guilds in this world are only involved in all things thieving like stealing and robbing, sometimes doing it for clients, some of who are government officials who are allies of the thieves guild and keep their existence a secret. Thieves guilds are usually apolitical organizations, and they're not seeking to gain power and influence like the mafia, although they do seek allies within the government so that they can help keep their organization a secret and dismiss claims of their involvement in robberies. As for the guilds using the same tactics as the mafia, some but not all use a few or more of them to keep their organization afloat, of course they are kept secret, but it's mainly with trading with fences and bribe government officials who are their allies as well as their clients/ customers. That's an idea that I'm thinking of exploring more when I get to writing the book series based on this world, they might use a few or some tactics like extortion or trafficking to keep their business/ organization afloat like the mafia.

With the mafia and all other criminal organizations, the bill comes due at some point do you have any idea how you would want to write that?

So what I have in mind is that the thieves guilds are secret organizations, so they don’t have to worry about paying rent or anything like that besides their members. They’re also involved with fences, too, so I’m thinking there can be a fence guild similar to a merchants guild as well. The thieves guilds keep their HQs hidden and out of view, like underneath a train stations or an postal office, whether they be abandoned or underground. I’m not sure if I want to make the building where Michel’s organization’s HQ is hidden abandoned (similar to the Old Post Office in Washington, DC) or still functional but hidden from plain sight to those who work there. Maybe abandoned would be better given the thieves guilds’ connections with government officials.

So if you’ve seen the post of the art piece I did called “The World of Autolycus”, this short story takes place in that same world where the Russian Empire is the #1 superpower in the world, with the only access to having advanced technology like airships, along with some of their allies like France, Japan, and others, they’ve conquered most of Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, and they didn’t sell Alaska to the US. This is a timeline of what if Ivan VI retook his throne after being overthrown and imprisoned by his cousin Elizabeth Petrovna, and so not only is the royal Russian lineage changed, but so has some of the timeline where the most important ones were Russia not getting involved in WW1 and the Russo-Japanese war never happened, increasing relations between them more than the US, and they’re the ones to kick off WW2, mainly being a big war for conquest for both Russia and Japan.
